Most of you familiar with WEB3 know that you will need a crypto wallet to connect with the dAPP of your choice. And one of the largest and most popular digital wallets is MetaMask.
If you still need to download MetaMask, you should do that here, and if you would like to read more about MetaMask you can look over their documents here. It is one of the most popular crypto wallets and is supported by several popular browsers including; CHROME | FIREFOX | BRAVE | EDGE | OPERA
It is important to note that this tutorial is for PC or MAC and it does not matter if you are on a desktop or laptop. If you are a mobile-first user, download METAMASK from your app store, and install it on your mobile device.
Getting Started
Once you have the browser of your choice installed onto the computer you wish to set up MetaMask on, head over to https://metamask.io/download/ > select the operating system you want it installed on (select CHROME regardless of the browser you are using, this is for PC users) > select install MetaMask.
NEXT > Confirm the installation and select GET STARTED
REMEMBER to Keep Security a TOP PRIORITY.
After you select Create a wallet you will be presented with one of the most important steps, creating a password for your digital wallet. Remember that this wallet will hold a monetary value of some degree. When choosing a password, make sure that it is a mix of alphanumeric characters, upper case and lower case, and contains special characters.
DO NOT have your browser save this password, use a pen and paper and write it down.
Once you have created your new password and confirmed the password, you must agree to the terms of use by selecting the box directly above CREATE.
Select CREATE and you will be guided to the next page SECURE YOUR WALLET by setting up the Secret Recovery Phrase.
What is a Secret Recovery Phrase? Your Secret Recovery Phrase is a 12-word phrase that is the “master key” to your wallet and your funds
How do I save my Secret Recovery Phrase?
- Save in a password manager
- Store in a bank vault
- Store in a safe deposit box
- Write down and store in multiple secret places
Should I share my Secret Recovery Phrase? Never, ever share your Secret Recovery Phrase, not even with MetaMask!
If someone asks for your recovery phrase they are likely trying to scam you and steal your wallet funds
REVEAL your Secret Words by clicking on the box. Once you can see the secret words, aka secret phrases, write them down on paper in order. You must enter them in the same order on the next screen.
Once you have entered the SECRET WORDS and clicked confirm, you will finally be shown your MetaMask wallet. By default, you will have the ETHEREUM Network loaded into your wallet. DO NOT SEND any tokens to this address yet unless it is ETH.
To send and receive tokens to your new wallet address, you will need to add the specific BLOCKCHAIN such as Avalanche $AVAX to your network.
